Laps to Lapland

Ride, Donate, Share

Launching today is Laps to Lapland, a festive challenge to help raise vital funds for the Watford Helps Covid Appeal.   Hop on a Beryl bike and get pedalling to help to collectively cycle the 6,307KM from Watford to Lapland and back between 7 and 31 December.

Residents can take their own bike out for a spin around their local park, shops or hire a Beryl bike and get sponsored or donate to the appeal. At the end of the campaign, a prize draw will take place with a six month Everyone Active family membership worth £675 with fitness goodies up for grabs for the lucky winner.

Every donation counts.  Just £1 from each Watford resident could raise over £90,000 for the fund.

The summer ‘Ride for Watford’ appeal, secured vital funds to provide grants to local charities like Random Cafe who were then able to provide emergency food boxes to those shielding, self-isolating or suffering from financial hardship.  Playskill were able to provide support and therapy to five new families in Watford as well as extended their services online.

As more residents reach out for help during the COVID-19 crisis and local charities suspend fundraising activities, for many charities, funding is as low as it’s ever been. “Laps to Lapland” will give residents a chance to support those in their community by simply riding a bike, and ensuring vital charity work can continue during this time and beyond.

Those using Beryl Bikes are encouraged to wash their hands immediately before and after use, stay a safe distance away from others whilst cycling and not to ride in large groups, following the latest Covid-19 restrictions in your area. Beryl’s guidance on safe use of the service can be found here.

The council has already received generous donations from local businesses Camelot and Berkeley Homes and is encouraging more local businesses to get involved or donate. Email to find out more.
