To help celebrate the onset of warmer weather and longer days, the ‘Better by Beryl’ campaign will offer new users the first 25 minutes of rush hour rides for free, while existing users can get the first 15 minutes for free* from Monday 22 to Friday 26 May inclusive.
The campaign aims to inspire even more people to use shared transport to get to and from work, by showcasing how much fun it can be and how many practical benefits it can bring, including:
- Saving money on fuel and parking
- Getting fitter, healthier and more active
- Improving mental wellbeing
- Avoiding sitting in traffic jams
- Contributing towards reducing carbon emissions and boosting air quality
Users will also be invited to share their experiences and pictures of commuting by Beryl across social media channels, using the #betterbyberyl hashtag.
Beryl CEO Phil Ellis said: “We know, from speaking to users, that more and more people in Norwich are turning to our bikes, e-bikes and e-scooters to get to and from work.
“As well as the practical benefits of saving time and money, using our vehicles to commute is also a lot of fun, especially when you’re zipping past other people sitting in traffic.
“It’s also true that an active and outdoor commute is good for physical and mental health, reducing stress levels and the risk of illness.”
“So with the onset of better weather and petrol prices still at an all-time high, this is the perfect time for even more commuters across the city to give two-wheeled transport a try.”
Beryl’s latest Annual Rider Report showed that commuting by Beryl is becoming more popular, with 51% of the 800+ respondents in Norwich saying they did compared to 31% in the previous year’s report.
The report also showed that people who used Beryl vehicles in Norwich were more likely to use their car less, with 40% of all riders in the city having reduced their car usage since using Beryl - an increase from 25% last year.
Beryl Minute bundles are by far the most convenient and cost-effective way to travel. They provide a discounted bundle of prepaid minutes that can be purchased in-app and used for future rides.
By partnering with the UK’s largest electricity transmission and distribution business, National Grid, Beryl aims to increase the number and reach of schemes across the city designed to get people swapping four wheels for two.
The partnership, which involves National Grid sponsoring Beryl’s Norwich electric fleet, was launched in December 2022 and enables Beryl to run more projects with businesses, charities and community groups, making sustainable travel even more accessible.
By boosting this work, the partnership helps further reduce traffic congestion and carbon emissions, while improving mental and physical health and air quality in Norwich.
