Beryl riders in Brighton

Cheaper weekday travel on Beryl Bikes

It’s now cheaper for people to ride on Beryl BTN Bikes during the week.

As part of a series of price changes, Beryl has reduced the cost of Monday to Friday Pay as You Ride travel in Brighton.

A new 50-minute bundle has also been introduced, as well as discounts for the city’s students and a new 72-hour Weekend Pass.

The new weekday Pay as You Ride tariff means a typical 23-minute BTN Bikes journey will cost less than £2.50 and less than £4.50 on an e-bike.

For those purchasing minute bundles, the cost of an e-bike journey goes down to as little as £2.64, still with no unlock fee.

Beryl CEO and co-founder Phil Ellis said: “We know from speaking directly to our riders that cost is an important factor when deciding to use our services.

“These new changes will hopefully help break down the barriers to active travel for even more people and encourage them to swap the car for sustainable transport when making those shorter journeys.

“Bike share also removes the additional costs of fuel, insurance, tax, MOT, maintenance and storage associated with private vehicle ownership, meaning it really is a cost-effective way to get around the city.”

Councillor Trevor Muten, Cabinet member for Transport, Parking and Public Realm, said: “These changes have been designed to make travelling cheaper for our residents, especially those travelling to work or higher education.

“The new weekday rate will help a lot of commuters while the discount for students will support them to move around the city and between campuses. I’m really pleased to see a new Weekend Pass which I know will be a great benefit to people visiting the city.

“We want to give people in the city real choices when it comes to transport. As well as these Beryl bikes price changes, we’re making parking services more sustainable and growing our electric vehicle infrastructure. Our Bus Service Improvement Plan is bringing down the cost of bus journeys and major projects are making it easier to walk and cycle.”
